The reason something becomes a cliche in the first place is that it has been repeated frequently and the reason that something gets repeated frequently is that there is usually at least a grain of truth to it.

I don't know the particulars of the case that you mentioned but even if an injustice has been committed in that instance this would not justify a committing an injustice regarding Vick (i.e., letting him off the hook because someone who killed someone got a light punishment).

Also, if you read closely what I wrote, I focused more on the aspect of the self-inflicted tragedy that Vick has perpetrated on himself than the issue of what punishment he should receive from the government and the NFL. My discussion of punishment largely dealt with the realities of what is likely to happen given the seemingly overwhelming case that is stacked up against Vick.David Friedmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08444347475303187373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6812670776373470303.post-64789418384813353342007-08-19T22:27:00.000-04:002007-08-19T22:27:00.000-04:00Don't get me wrong, I grew up with pets. But c'mon folks stop the haterage over Vick and dogs when you have scum like the poor little housewife of a preacher walking free after committing murder against another HUMAN BEING - I just don't get it. (Google Mary Winkler in McMinnville, TN.) The media and the public have all but put Vick in the gas chamber and certainly banned him from the NFL and for what? I would think that killing your husband (as opposed to divorcing or leaving him) would warrant more outcry and outrage than Mike Vick and dogs. I find the allegations against Vick disgusting, but it pales in comparison. I'd immediately cross the street in fear upon seeing Mary Winkler before I'd run from Vick.
Sidenote: Mary Winkler, preacher's wife, shot her husband while he slept, point-blank in the back with a shotgun. Found guilty. She served some 60 days (mostly in a psych facility for observation)and now she walks free and even could regain custody of her small children who were there at the time of the shooting.Mystery Ladyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07780204365378243557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6812670776373470303.post-60341267468624029482007-08-18T10:18:00.000-04:002007-08-18T10:18:00.000-04:00The whole thing is so pathetic. How does someone ...The whole thing is so pathetic. How does someone grow into the kind of person who takes pleasure in treating other living beings with that kind of cruelty?

We had a 7 year-old-boy die here in Mpls., yesterday due to a dog attack. Full grown, not-neutered male pit bull CHAINED in a basement. Boy goes down to play with puppies and is attacked. There is a lot of questioning and speculation as to why the dog was chained up in the freaking basement.

Anyway, if any good can come out of the Michael Vick story, I hope it's that kids and adults who think dog-fighting is okay have had their eyes opened to how fast you can trash your life by behaving like a monster.Whitneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07636206212678194409noreply@blogger.com
